2019 Petit Verdot Levi Philander Davis Vineyard
From a single acre of Petit Verdot growing immediately adjacent to the Brothers Vineyard at 800 feet of elevation, the family loves this wine for its sheer ego. Produced from 100% Petit Verdot, it shows off all of the fascinating floral aromas, spice, rich fruit and deep color so characteristic of the variety. Writing in Vinous, critic Antonio Galloni described the '19 as "... an especially refined, nuanced expression of Petit Verdot that captures all of the natural energy of the year ..." 1,044 bottles produced.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The 2019 growing season began with much needed rains. With a reserve of water in the ground, the vines grew quickly. Our vineyard team struggled to keep up with the ground vegetation and canopy management. Removing lateral shoots and excess fruit was especially important in 2019 to maintain balance. The growing season was even, with no heat spikes in the autumn. We were at leisure to pick at optimal ripeness. The wines are generous and plush with exceptional aromatic complexity.
Winemaker Notes
2019 growing conditions were perfect for Petit Verdot, which prefers even weather during the last 6 weeks of ripening. The bouquet of the 2019 is thick and dense, highlighted with wild licorice, lavender and black cherries. The palate tension is strung between acidity, tannin and thick fruit. This wine is a compelling, carnal enigma and makes us so glad we were able to save some to be bottled alone and enjoyed unblended.
