Los Ricos Vineyard
A steep one acre block at the southwestern corner of the property.
An ancient, dry-farmed prune orchard grew on the site when we came to the ranch in 1955. In 1997 we removed the remaining prune trees and replanted the field to Cabernet Sauvignon, using Clone 337 on 110R rootstock. The block extends from approximately 625 to 675 feet of elevation. The surface is east-facing at a grade of almost 20%, which means the vineyard receives significantly more morning sun and less afternoon sun than the other vineyards on the property. The soils are predominantly volcanic Rhyolite.
The wines produced from The Ricos Vineyard are distinguished by their delicacy, perfume and nuance. Beginning with the 2013 harvest we have been bottling the wines from Los Ricos as a single-vineyard designate -- the beguiling sibling to our Brothers Vineyard Cabernets.
