Snowden Vineyards

2023 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch

The 2023 Ranch is produced from Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Pool Block, our western-most vineyard, and the Lost Orchard, our eastern-most -- blended with a touch of Merlot from the Lost Vineyard, which lies between the two.  Winemaker Diana Snowden Seysses describes the wine as "steady and composed," with a lovely bouquet of black current, plums and tobacco" tannins which are "seamless and fine," and "notes of dark cherry and cedar" on the finish.  The fermentation was by wild, native yeasts with minimal manipulation or additions -- no chaptalization, no acid, no digestive enzymes, no fining -- and fermented dry with the goal of leaving room for the site to show through. 1,088 cases were produced.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Winter and spring rains replenished our reservoirs, restored the water table, and saturated the fields, setting the stage for a healthy growing season. The weather remained cool and even throughout the year, with flowering and harvest unfolding steadily and without pressure. The 2023 vintage enjoyed one of the longest growing seasons in recent memory, allowing for generous hang time and gradual ripening. The resulting wines are refined and poised—marked by depth of fruit, balanced acidity, and a quiet, weightless elegance.
Winemaker Notes
With a lovely bouquet of black current, plums and tobacco, the '23 Ranch Cabernet shows quiet confidence —steady, composed, and structured. The tannins are seamless and fine, reflecting a long growing season and dappled sunlight coming through a carefully tended canopy. Notes of dark cherry and cedar glide through the finish. A touch of Merlot in the blend lends early approachability and balance.
