For the first time we are offering a vertical selection of our top Cabernet Sauvignon from six consecutive vintages -- the first vintages from our winemaker, Diana Snowden Seysses. The wines are united by our terroir, but show off the lovely variations of the vintages, including the massive 2007 and the more classic 2008. Some highlights:
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve -- Rich and powerful without losing balance and focus, the 2005 Reserve is a reflection of our terroir in a near-perfect growing year. The wine was originally described in the Wine Advocate as a "stunner ... prodigious ... terrific ... fabulous ..." and has only grown more nuanced and complex with significant bottle aging. A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot.
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve -- A big wine -- Robert Parker called it "exhuberant, rich, full-bodied" -- leaning toward muscle and body. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the aroma is a rich blend of fruit, flowers, coffee, and spice. The Wine Spectator described the wine as "... Very Pauillac-like in its structure, balance and restraint. Keeps getting better with every sip."
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve -- Produced as a "field blend" of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Cabernet Franc -- the grapes were harvested and fermented together. We were so pleased with the result, we did not do any further blending. The Wine Advocate called the wine "dazzling," remarking on its "tremendous purity, definition, and length" and declaring it a wine that "should evolve for three decades."
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve -- We embraced -- rather than resisted -- the challenging 2008 growing year, refusing to engineer muscle or force extraction, instead letting the wine develop naturally as a charming, nuanced, elegant, and pure expression of our site. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot, the Wine Advocate noted "this beauty should drink well for 15+ years."
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve -- Described as "drop dead gorgeous" by the Wine Advocate, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve leans toward power and richness. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot, The Wine Enthusiast named it a Cellar Selection, noting that the wine "takes its place among Napa's top tier" and "should come into its own after 2015."
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve -- A family favorite for its purity and fidelity to our site, the 2010 reserve was our “biggest” wine since the 2007 Reserve. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot, the wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The Wine Advocate described the 2010 Reserve as "rich, opulent" and predicted it will age well for ten to fifteen years.
